I think it’s safe to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Atomfall. I said in my review of the game that if you embrace it for what it is, and not expecting a British Fallout, then the exploration, scavenging, and solving the mystery make it well worth your time.
Following it’s seemingly successful launch a few months ago, Rebellion have been talking about the game’s successes, what comes next, and there’s some DLC been announced too!
Wicked Isle DLC
First things first. Rebellion recently revealed that the first story expansion for Atomfall is releasing very soon. Announced via a super short and not-giving-very-much-away-at-all teaser, the Wicked Isle DLC will release on 3 June 2025. Just under two weeks away.
No further information has been given on what the DLC will contain, but we can safely assume it’s on an island of some sort.
It will be available for all platforms the original game released on: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series.
Atomfall’s Success and What’s Next
In an interview with The Game Business, developer Rebellion spoke about how Atomfall was “immediately profitable”, making back its development costs on launch. Atomfall has reached two million players so far, a lot of which will likely be from those trying the game out on Xbox and PC Game Pass, though not to the detriment of the money made.
Now, it seems that Rebellion is looking into possible sequels, spin-offs, and future support for Atomfall.
The interview is really interesting, as we get some insights into the business thinking of Rebellion and where they sit in the games industry. Interestingly, it sounds like Rebellion will be moving away from ‘old formats’ now, as they are no longer financially viable. Assumingly this would mean PS4 and Xbox One mainly.
I was excited to hear that there’s more Sniper Elite they want to do, as well as potentially more Atomfall. Rebellion are certainly up there as one of my developers of 2025 so far. If Zombie Army VR hits, then it’ll be a great year for them.
Have you played Atomfall? Ready for the Wicked Isle DLC? What would you like to see from Rebellion next?
