The return of 90’s character platformers continues this summer as iconic gecko, Gex returns digitally with the Gex Trilogy on June 16. Limited time pre-orders for a physical edition via Limited Run Games will launch tomorrow (May 9).
Gex Trilogy remasters the three Gex games from many gamers' childhoods: The original 2D Gex; Â and its two 3D sequels: Gex: Enter the Gecko & Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. The games will make use of the Carbon Engine to make numerous improvements:
- native 16:9 widescreen support for Gex 2 and 3
- updated smoother analogue controls - something that Glover's re-release this year could have certainly done with
- save states and rewind features
For those who are too young to remember the gecko's time in the 90's spotlight, the original 2D platformer Gex launched on PS1, Sega Saturn, 3DO and PC in 1995. The 3D follow ups, Gex: Enter the Gecko released on PS1, N64, PC and GBC in 1998; with the third, Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko was on PS1, N64 and GBC in 1999.
Physical editions
For collectors of physical games, there will be three editions of the game to choose from.
Physical base edition
The standard edition will include the three remastered games on a disc:
Physical Classic Edition
There will also be a Classic Edition which includes the game, a steelbook, CD with a partial soundtrack, double-sided poster and more:
Physical Tail Time Edition
Finally, the Tail Time edition will include a full soundtrack of all games, 7" Gex statue, 36" inflatable Gex doll and more.
Gex Trilogy will release on June 16 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and Nintendo Switch. Physical versions will be available for all platforms (yes, even PC!) via Limited Run Games from May 9.
