Elden Ring Nightreign Overview Trailer – What Did We Learn

It’s now officially Elden Ring Nightreign launch month, with the multiplayer adaptation of one of the greatest games of modern times releasing May 30 2025. Since the reveal at The Game Awards 2024, FromSoftware have steadily revealed more information on the 3 player PvE title including gameplay, characters and more.

We know that there will be 8 playable characters including Ironeye, The Duchess and The Raider, none of whom were available in the Network Test. The map will offer “large-scale changes to terrain” which will mix up each 3 day run players attempt. From various gameplay clips released previously, we also know traversal will feel more Sekiro, than Souls.

Today, FromSoftware marked release month by releasing the new overview trailer. Here’s the trailer and everything we now know:

Elden Ring Nightreign overview trailer, what we learnt

Today’s overview trailer was broken down in to five segments about the game which we’ve summarised for you here:

Part 1: Limveld

Limveld, once a country that thrived thanks to the power of gods, it is now nearing its end. Nightfarers, starting at ‘level 1’ are deployed to Limveld to overcome the enemies spread across the land. Each of the games 3 days has a limited time before night falls and how players choose to use that time is up to them. The key focus for everyone is to level and gear up, quickly.

Items, treasure and more will be hidden for players to find including hidden operational maps. The map will offer heavily fortified areas with high-tier loot for those who dare. Players can move around the map together, or divide and conquer to acquire more loot in less time.

Each time players enter Limveld, the world will change. There will be new enemies, loot and other features each time you embark on an expedition. Random events will occur periodically including meteor strikes. However, even more dramatic changes can appear including volcanic craters, dark forests and more. Each run will feel entirely different and Nightfarers will have to decide how to use the precious minutes before nightfall.

Part 2: Threats of the Night

As night falls on Limveld, the gameplay map will decrease in the vein of a battle-royale shooter. As the play space decreases, players will be forced towards an unavoidable confrontation with a powerful boss. In the trailer we saw a large arachnid-type enemy, as well as a knight on horseback who looked very akin to the original Elden Ring’s Tree Sentinel.

In the true spirit of co-operative play, critically injured (downed) players can be brought back to life from near or afar.

Part 3: Nightfarers

There will be eight playable Nightfarers in the game – Wylder, Guardian, Ironeye, Duchess, Raider, Recluse and Executor. Each Nightfarer possesses different skills, weapons and passive abilities:

  • Wylder – Proficient with a wide-range melee weapons and a grappling hook which can be used to close distances on enemies. Wylder also possesses powerful iron spikes.
  • Guardian – Equipped with a massive shield and likely to be the defensive Nightfarer in a squad. Their whirlwind skill can be used to deflect arrows, whilst they can deploy a magic circle to save allies.
  • Ironeye – An archer who attacks from a distance. Their marking skill can disrupt poise and create attack opportunities. Their supersonic arrow ability can fire through multiple enemies at once.
  • Duchess – A thief with quick reflexes who uses cunning to confuse enemies. She can use the skill Restage to repeat attacks and deal more damage. she also has a cloaking ability allowing her to sneak up on foes.
  • Raider – A sea-farer who is resilient in battle. They have high flinch resistance and a counterattack which cannot be interrupted by enemies. Their Totem Stella ability can conjure a colossal gravestone which can block projectiles and be used as a platform to get some needed respite atop of.
  • Recluse – The mage of the Nightfarers. She can use elemental attributes to damage enemies including fire, lightning and ice. She can also cast an ability on enemies which enables allies to drain health and magic from them.
  • Executor – During the presentation, we were not treated to a breakdown of Executor’s abilities.

Part 4: Roundtable Hold

A familiar location for anyone who has played Elden Ring. This will serve as the games hub, a place to equip new abilities and more. How players prepare in the Hold will determine how they fare in Limveld.

There will also be currency in the game which can be used to buy items and costumes, including some that will look familiar to Souls series fans.

There will be lore to the game and the Nightfarers themselves. As players continue their expeditions across Limveld, glimpses of the past may return. By recovering ‘fragments of lost memory’, you can fill in the blanks of your Nightfarers history. This will open new conversations at Roundtable Hold, offering new objectives to discover the history of the individual Nightfarers. The story of why the eight Nightfarers came together at Roundtable Hold and why they fight will start to become clear.

Part 5: Nightlords

Finally, we were treated to a glimpse of some of the games Nightlords. The Nightlords are the ultimate threat in Limveld. They will appear on the third day and be the games hardest challenge. Players will need to level quickly, find relics and weapons to be able to take on this challenge.

In the trailer were a variety of new and returning bosses who Nightfarers can expect to take on. It seems that players will get the opportunity to battle bosses on the famous beach where we once fought Radahn.

Conclusion

In what was an impressive showing for Nightreign, we have a much clearer picture of the game launching in just a few weeks. The Gamer Social Club team are huge Souls fans and are incredibly excited to take on Limveld.
