The April update for Rare’s swashbuckling multiplayer adventure game sailed into port on Thursday, 24th April, heralding the last content additions for Season 15. Fortunately, it’s a treasure trove of new content, which should get players happy as a pig in… mud! So let’s look at everything that came with the Sea of Thieves April update for 2025!
Let’s start with the most exciting and cutest addition to the high seas, wild boars! They can be found roaming various islands, typically in small groups. They can be tracked by following hoofprints and fruit trails. While they may flee when approached, they will charge if provoked and can heal by consuming nearby fruit. They also hoard treasure in their wallows, which players can discover and loot."‹

A voyage is available from The Hunter's Call at rank 15, which tasks crews with hunting the Grand Boar, a formidable variant that drops a valuable Boar Tusk upon defeat.
Next up is the addition of another new voyage, this time sending players off to stop a Megalodon that’s rampaging across the Sea of Thieves. An enchanted spyglass is provided to aid in hunting down the finned threat. The voyage is picked up from the Hunter’s Call after reaching rank 20.
Some tweaks have also been made to the dangers that lurk beneath the waves. Megalodons will now be more aggressive toward nearby ships, while Kraken encounters can now occur alongside other world events. Both the Kraken and Megs now yield additional treasure, with a higher chance of items valuable to The Hunter's Call."‹ The Sea of Thieves grows more dangerous, but more profitable as well!

That’s the wildlife of Sea of Thieves taken care of, but there’s more! Hunting Spears lodged in a ship’s hull cause increased water ingress and are more difficult to remove, and are now considered a resource that persists through voyages and faction battles. They now do increased damage to players and creatures, with one-hit kills on players at full health, so stay sharp!
There were a few quality of life improvements that we’ll list here:
- Addressed issues with hunting spear duplication and various animation glitches.
- Introduced a new policy providing clearer communication regarding account actions and opportunities for players to amend their behavior.
- Implemented behind-the-scenes improvements to protect players, including content creators, from malicious targeting.
That’s everything to be plundered from the Sea of Thieves April update, but if you’d like to watch the official video, we have it embedded below.
