Sony has announced they will be increasing the subscription price of PS Plus for certain countries. This price increase will be across all tiers of the service and will affect 15 countries. They are Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. These are currently the only countries that will see an increase. This price increase will go into effect starting next week, April 16, 2025.

Sony has stated that the price increase is a direct result of “global market conditions”, with the current market being volatile and the on-again, off-again trade war, leading to those increases. Sony stated it can “continue offering high quality games and value added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription”. These are quotes in an X post by VGT gaming news.

This isn’t the first time we have seen Sony increase their prices this generation. Back in September of 2023, we saw the price of PS Plus increase globally. Then, 12 months of PlayStation Plus Essential went up from $59.99 to $79.99, PlayStation Plus Extra from $99.99 to $134.99, and PlayStation Plus Premium went from $119.99 to $159.99.

This most recent price hike comes shortly after the announcement of the games coming to the PS Plus game catalog this April, headlined by Hogwarts Legacy and the newly released Blue Prince.
