Bad news for folks in Canada who were keen to get their pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 locked in. Nintendo has now confirmed that the new console will be delayed past its original preorder date of 9 April 2025.
The news comes as the world continues to reel from President Trump’s new international tariffs on imports, which were announced last week. The impact of these tariffs may well cause the Japanese company (with a new tariff of 24%) to pass on that extra cost to customers. Though, this is of course to be confirmed by Nintendo in the future.
In a statement to MobileSyrup, Nintendo of Canada commented:
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."

This has shifted from what was previously expected, despite the news last week pre-orders for Canada were still on track. As this is an ever-evolving situation, though, Nintendo has decided on a more joined-up approach for the North American continent.
Fingers crossed it won’t be too long before Canada and the U.S. can snag their preorders.
