The latest in an almost hourly drip-feed of Nintendo Switch 2 news is that the ‘Big N’ has confirmed the new console will not have an achievement or trophy-like system for players to earn virtual accolades.
Speaking to Polygon, when asked whether the Nintendo Switch 2 would have virtual rewards for players to unlock, Nintendo’s VP, Player and Product Experience, Bill Trinen simply had “Nope†to say.
It’s perhaps unsurprising that the Nintendo Switch 2 will not have achievements or trophies, given the original console never offered such a system. However, with large communities of achievement/trophy hunters across Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation platforms, this may feel like a glaring omission to some.
Achievements for The Legend of Zelda
Although the console will not have a system-wide achievement/trophy mechanism, the Nintendo App will offer achievement lists for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, both of which will offer ‘Switch 2 Editions’ at a full price point when the new platform launches. Whether this will roll out more widely across Nintendo’s first-party games, including Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza, remains to be seen.
