One of last years biggest viral games on Xbox is now making its way over to PlayStation. Today developer Digital Cybercherries dropped a trailer officially announcing that Hypercharge: Unboxed is coming to PlayStation 4 & 5 in the near future.
Having been teased for a few months now by the developer, today’s news is big for those who have been patiently waiting on the PlayStation console. While no exact date was provided, previous marketing suggests it will be quite soon. When they announced the Xbox version was “coming soon” last year it launched about a month after the initial announcement. For now we will have to settle for “coming soon” and the game is available for wishlist now.
Fans have every reason to be excited considering the games quality. We reviewed it and gave it a 9 saying “Hypercharge: Unboxed is like “Small Soldiers” and Call of Duty had a super cute destructive baby!”
Hypercharge: Unboxed sees you play as little toy soldiers fighting waves of enemies across various maps. The maps are all rooms you’d find in a typical home or toy store, decked out with some crazy designs to add a lot of verticality to the game play. You can play in co-op or single player with bots. There is also a PvP element to the game as well, though it wasn’t quite as popular.
Viral Xbox Hit
The game went viral last year for its crazy game play and unique look. We interviewed the game’s creative director Joe Henson last year on multiple occasions both pre and post Xbox launch to talk about the game. During our post launch interview we had the chance to talk to him about how the game had gone so viral within Xbox headquarters that it even had Phil Spencer asking his team about the game.

Hypercharge: Unboxed originally launched on PC and Switch back in 2020. While the game did well on those platforms it didn’t get as much hype or attention until it launched on Xbox last year. The studio announced it had sold 100k copies on Xbox alone a month after launch, a major hit for an indie of its size. The development team is all of 6 people it should be noted.
With the PlayStation announcement now here we will have to see how the buzz builds back up for Hypercharge. Will the excitement have faded too much for a 5 year old game, or is their an appetite on PlayStation for it? My initial thinking is there definitely is as many asked where the PlayStation version was, so hopefully the support is there!
