There were several dozen games shown off today at the Mix X Kinda Funny Spring Showcase 2025, and one that stuck out to me was Hirogami. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios Singapore and published by Kakehashi Games, Hirogami is a 3D action platformer with beautiful origami inspired gameplay and visuals.

A new trailer for the game was revealed at the showcase, giving players a better look at Hirogami’s protagonist, the suitably named Hiro, and introducing several of his friends he will encounter on his journey.
In a press release that went out shortly after the end of the Mix X Kinda Funny Spring Showcase 2025, the developers explain how Hiro is able to transform into origami animal forms, like those of his three friends, “the revered elder armadillo, Ama Jii, the distinguished gentleman frog, Bingley, and the fearless mighty ape, Shaan Ti – each of whom Hiro will meet on the adventure to save their fragile origami world.” It goes on to provide concise descriptions of how each of these three forms can be used, which read as follows:
- As a hardy armadillo, Hiro can roll through barriers and enemies alike – and can fire out of cannons to reach new areas
- As a nimble frog, Hiro can jump higher or slow down enemies or contraptions with intoxicating spit.
- And as a mighty Ape, Hiro can dish out a combo of sweeping attacks, swing from vines and pound the ground to scatter enemies.Â

Hiro can also be seen turning into a paper plane whilst in the air to glide, and through the creative medium of origami, who knows what other forms the papercraft protagonist can take!

Hirogami is not the only game being published by Kakehashi Games, who specialise in bringing Japanese developed games over to the West. They are also bringing the truly pschyedelic Sonokuni, a top-down “Bio-punk” brawler developed by J-Hip Hop group the Don Yasa Crew, to Western audiences this year as well.
Originally announced last year, Hirogami is slated to release on PC in 2025. Check out the game’s Steam Page, and consider adding it to your wishlist!
