The “That Sign Can’t Stop Me Because I Can’t Read” achievement is unlocked during the “Heart of Valor” side-quest in Avowed.

Avowed, the latest RPG effort from legendary developers Obsidian has been a triumph since its release in February 2025. Receiving great reviews (including from us) and host of ongoing support, it seems everyone is having a great time with the game. Even when there’s been the occasional mission glitch (now patched).

As you would expect from the developers of Fallout: New Vegas, and the excellent South Park RPGs, there’s some cracking humour and side-quests to be discovered, includiung in the games achievements. If you’re an achievement hunter (or even if you’re not) you’re rewarded with that little dopamine hit for being silly on occasion.

“That Sign Can’t Stop Me Because I Can’t Read” Achievement

To unlock the “That Sign Can’t Stop Me Because I Can’t Read” achievement you simply need ignore the warning note and pull the lever the note is telling you not to pull. You will come across this during the side mission “Heart of Valor” which is in the Sand Sea Ruins of the third location in the game, Shatterscarp.

You’ll need to enter the Sand Sea Ruins as a matter of completing the objective, and the map marker will take you there. You’ll come to a raised area where there’s a number of bears and Xaurips to dispatch. Once you’ve taken care of them, head to the upper level and towards the larger structure where you can enter and drop down the whole in the floor. Take it a level at a time, less the fall damage kill you.

From there, unbar the door back out and turnaround and head towards a door that takes you to the “Sand Sea Ruins”. Once that area has loaded, what you’re looking for for this achievement will be more or less directly in front of you. There’s a blue shimmer on a sign sat next to a lever.

Read the sign, then pull the lever and in true Home Alone style…you’ll be rewarded with an achievement. Mine took a minute to pop. I would recommend just saving it before you pull anything, in case you need to reload.

Here’s a video of where to go and what to do to unlock “That Sign Can’t Stop Me Because I Can’t Read” achievement.
