With the much-delayed Assassins Creed Shadows finally scheduled for release this month, we at last have some idea of how much content we can expect at launch.
Fans who were hoping for a smaller scale 20-25 hour completion like Mirage may be surprised to hear that Ubisoft have returned to a much longer game like Valhalla. In an interview with social media influencer, @Genki on X, Assassins Creed Shadows Creative Director Jonathan Dumont revealed the game will have a 30-40 hour story. However for completionists, there will be over 80 hours of content if you include side quests and other activity.
AC fans who have played Origins, the incredible Odyssey, or the divisive Valhalla will have a good understanding of what to expect in terms of story and extra content.
Fans of the beloved series have been campaigning for a Japan setting for some time. In the interview, Dumont also revealed that films including 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi and Kurosawa were influences for the new title. He also noted that the development team have been aware of the online controversy surrounding the game, but they’ve been focused on delivering an outstanding release.

A final key detail from the interview was the console performance options for Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles. There will be performance (lower resolution, 60fps) and quality (higher resolution, 30fps) modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X. PS5 Pro will have its own enhanced versions of both performance and quality modes. Finally, Xbox Series S specs will be revealed later.
Assassins Creed releases on March 20 2025 and we will be covering the game heavily around launch here at GSC. For now, let us know below in the comments what you’re most excited for in the biggest AC in years.
