Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest game from Capcom throws a whole lot of things at you pretty quickly without really explaining them to you. One of those things are field survey missions. We’re here to explain what they are and what you need to do.
What Is A Field Survey?
Field Surveys are optional objectives you can find in Monster Hunter Wilds. However unlike many other missions you can’t get these from the quest board.
When you aren’t in a mission you can essentially free roam the maps, and of course the world is filled with many monsters. Using your map you can spot many different species, including the ones you want to hunt for field surveys. Find the one you want to do and head that way. One thing of note, you have to have the guilds permission to hunt it but there’s an easy way to check that.
Once you find the monster on the map, expand its details and then if it shows Quest Info in the description you can indeed hunt this monster for a field survey. Either use the above method and simply attack it or in this menu you can create a quest using the button prompt and create a field survey.

You can set a waypoint to it using the RS if you’d like and then hop on your mount who will head that way automatically if you’d like.
How To Complete Field Surveys
In order to actually start a field survey mission you will need to attack the monster enough to trigger the mission. Once you’ve done that it more or less acts like any other hunt mission. Fight the monster back to its lair and finish it off and carve what you need out of it.
Now incase you are wondering why this would be important to do the easy answer is supplies for upgrades. You are going to want to slay the same monster a few times to get the right items to create better weapons and armor. This is the easiest way to do so. Plus it has the “The Hunt Is On” achievement or trophy tied to it.
It is also an easy way to grind other achievements or trophies such as completing 50 quests and completing 100 quests with your Palico.
