Fable Is Delayed, Releasing In 2026

Craig Duncan, the new Head of Xbox Games Studios, has shared news that the new Fable game has been delayed into 2026. The news came during an episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, which you can watch here.

After talking about the games highlighted during the Xbox Developer_Direct back in January, the conversation turned to the much anticipated Fable. “We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025,” said Duncan, “We are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to shift in 2026 now.”

While this is no doubt disappointing news to Fable fans, it hardly seems surprising given how little we have seen of the game so far. This news also comes just after the CEO of Microsoft Phil Spencer’s appearance on the XboxEra podcast, where he also stressed how Xbox are able to give their Studios more time to work on their games.

“I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team,” continued Duncan, sighting the studio’s impeccable track record with the Forza Horizon franchise.

To take some of the sting out of this update, Duncan provided some more pre-alpha footage of Fable, courtesy of Playground Games. The short montage shows off more of the game’s traversal, combat, magic, and stunning visual fidelity.

Shortly after the podcast went up, Playground Games themselves took to social media to let Fable fans know what was happening with the next entry in this iconic Xbox franchise.
