Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past is a new video game currently being developed and planning to release on all major platforms in 2026. The announcement was timed with the original anime’s 35th anniversary this month.
The game, which is described as a “2D action RPG” on its Steam Page, is being published by Red Dunes Games and developed by Blast Zero, a Dutch studio known for anime inspired beat ’em up Jistu Squad.
The announcement was made with a fully animated trailer, which was later revealed to be fully hand drawn just as the original anime series had been. Check out the trailer to get a sense of the show’s comedic tone and see some gameplay.
From what can be seen in the announcement trailer, the game’s art style is staying true to the original series’, with players able to switch between the three main characters at will. The game’s Steam description reads "That's right folks, after more then 30 years the Samurai Pizza Cats finally return! The Big Cheese has an evil Scheme up his sleeve and it's up to you, the player, to stop him from taking over Little Tokyo!"

Another detail worth highlighting is that both the original Japanese and English voice casts for the anime series will be reprising their roles for Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past!
The original Samurai Pizza Cats anime is another case where the English scripts for the show were completely original, due to the poor quality of the Japanese translation or complete lack of one. The wacky, self aware nature of the show still seems alive and well if the game’s announcement trailer is any indication!
