In what is becoming a weekly, if not daily, news for the video game industry, more layoffs have impacted unfortunate developers. This time, 10:10 Games have laid off 20 employees following the "complete commercial and critical failure" of Funko Fusion according to Insider Gaming.
The debut title for the UK based studio aimed to capture the cultural phenomenon of Funko Pop big-headed figurines and drop them into a video game setting spanning multiple franchises.
Poorly Received
Currently sitting at dismal Metacritic scores of 54 for critic reviews and 5.7 for user reviews, the title was a critical failure, largely panned for its repetitive nature and poor attempt to adapt the LEGO formula into a third person action game. Funko Fusion featured seven campaigns across as many well-known franchises with none standing out. It's a disaster that the only Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead - the legendary UK comedy movies - video game adaptions we will likely ever see weren't well received.

Given the wealth of franchises that Funko create figurines for, Funko Fusion had the foundations for a live-service title with numerous expansions. However, given the limited number of consumers for expansions to be sold to, its unlikely we will see much, if any, new content.
It is reported that the employees have been offered the bare minimum redundancy packages, as well as payment for any unused annual leave.
Following thousands of layoffs in 2024, it has been a dismal start to 2025 for video game creators. There are unconfirmed reports that up to 900 positions have been made redundant since the start of the year alone.
