I think a lot of us are aware that Sony had a few online issues across the PlayStation platform over the weekend. Not only could people not play online, but people with digital consoles and the PS5 Pro were even reporting not being able to play offline due to the disc drives need for an internet connection (eep!). It totaled nearly 24 hours of outage.

Although we’re still waiting to hear more about what an “operational issue” means, it wasn’t just the standard online services that were impacted. Monster Hunter Wilds, the upcoming action role-playing game from Capcom, has just had its first open beta weekend. Of course, while the PlayStation network was down, those gamers could not take part.

To make up for that, Capcom has announced that its next open beta weekend, aptly named “Open Beta Test 2”, will get an extended period to make up for the time lost during the first test.

The Open Beta Test 2 will now run from Thursday 13 February, 7pm through until Monday 17 February, 6:59pm (PT). This is between Friday 14 February, 3am until Tuesday 18 February, 2:59am GMT.

The beta is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles, and crossplay is enabled. You can also play on PS5 and Xbox Series without the need for a PS Plus or Game Pass Core subscription, which is nice.

If you take part in the open beta, you’ll be able to unlock the ‘Participation Bonuses’ that will become availabe in the full game.

This is a great move from Capcom, I’m sure there was plenty of frustration from fans who were wanting to jump in last weekend, so at least they get another chance.

As long as PlayStation Network doesn’t go down again, of course!
