GSC Demo Disc #1: February 2025

The humble demo disc; a relic of a bygone era. Once, one of the most powerful sources of marketing, given for free with copies of video game magazines, or found inside cereal boxes. Now, they are nothing more than a distant memory, a dwindling afterthought for an industry reborn into the digital age.

But demo discs offered something that other gaming media just couldn’t provide; a hands-on experience. Like reading an excerpt from a novel, or watching the extended trailer for a film, demo discs gave players a chance to play before they paid. After all, what better way is there to know if you’ll enjoy a video game than actually playing it? The thrill of discovering a new game you love, or constantly replaying the same level of your most anticapated release; demo discs were special!

So we decided to create something with that same purpose, to try and recapture that sense of discovery and anticipation. The GSC team have spent the last month gathering together a selection of demos, from games available right now to releasing in the next year. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your next favourite video game!

So here it is! The very first issue of our new monthly series: the GSC Demo Disc #1!

Knights in Tight Spaces

Knights in Tight Spaces is the second game in the Tight Spaces series from developers Ground Shatter. Following up from the amazing Fights in Tight Spaces from 2021, Knights in Tight Spaces follows a similar formula with a medieval fantasy twist.

A turn based, strategy, tactical, deck builder (say that 5 times fast) that features the same addictive gameplay loop of the first title. You control a full DnD party of fighters in card based grid battle in small environments. With 300 cards to slot into your deck, each room is a test of your deck building capability and your tactical thinking. Tough enemy standing next to a window? Just kick them right out of it and remove them from combat. Archer targeting your ally? Push another enemy in front of them as a meat shield!

There's so much synergy between cards, locations and party member combos that you'll never solve a problem the same way twice. It's super creative, super stylish, the art is amazing, and the music absolutely rocks.

Demo available on PC(Steam).
