Tips For Tails Of Iron 2: Whiskers Of Winter

Brace yourselves, Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter has been released! The sequel to the 2021 Indie hit comes with a whole new snowladen setting, a horde of new enemies to slay, and the power to harness elemental magic! If you are new to the series, or just need to brush up on your adventuring know how, here are some tips for Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter!

1. Fast Travel

Tails of Iron 2 has a nifty fast travel system that let’s you move within and between the world’s many locations. Signposts act as fast travel points, and all of them appear on your map once you have finished the story quest for that location. You need to be at a signpost in order to use fast travel.

There is one issue: the signposts have fallen into disrepair and you’ll need to fix them up with some wooden planks and stone to make them operational. Thankfully, as long as you have the resources, you can repair all the signposts you have discovered through the map! Left a location but forgot to repair the signpost before leaving? No problem, just highlight them on your map and you’re back in business!

2.Your Gear

There is a whole menagerie of enemies you’ll have fight tooth and nail with as you traverse this dangerous land. With the introduction of elemental magic comes a growing need to manage your equipment, to increase your damage output and resistances. Make use of your detailed bestiary to study up on your foes and prepare for each altercation.

If you find yourself caught out by an ambush, or just not paying attention, fret not! You can pause the game at any time to switch your gear, even mid combat. You can normally deduce an enemy’s weaknesses and strengths by their appearance and their attacks, so size them up and choose your most suitable armour and weapons for the fight!

3.Combat

Once you start getting access to your magic, use it! Your spells recharge as you attack enemies, so your only limit to your magical powers is how aggressive you are! While there is a handy parry/riposte mechanic in the game, dodging is a sure bet for survival. Complete with a generous invincibility window and the ability to roll through enemies, your dodge is an invaluable asset.

Blocking is handy for ranged attacks, and while you do have your own ranged options, your best bet is to get up close and give them a good whack! Lastly, you need to hold down the assigned button for your flask in order to heal, so be careful when healing in the heat of battle. You are able to walk slowly as you heal, so bear that in mind!

4. Questing

You pick up your story quests by taking a seat in the main hall of the Winter’s Edge outpost and picking from a menu. You’ll get a description of what it entails, where you will need to go, and what rewards you’ll receive for completing it.

Side quests like hunts are picked up from certain vendors, but behave the same way as story quests. With all quests, you have markers appear on the map to show you where to go. Some quests have certain parameters, like a hunt that is only available at night, so check your quest log for any extra information.

5. Loot

Slain enemies drop loot, so be sure to search them before moving on. Each type of enemy drops different types of loot, and there is no limit to how much you can carry. Don’t stress too much about looting every corpse; after a few story quests you gain access to a loot chest in your room that collects any goodies you have left behind!

Keep your eyes peeled for raised patches of earth and rocky outcrops within the environment, these are dig and mining spots, respectively. Also, mining spots can be tapped three times!

6.Gold

Don’t worry about saving your gold, as you’ll end up with hundreds in just a few hours of playtime. Spend your hard earned coin on supplies and better gear, even if it is just to help with the next boss encounter. No one is trying to gouge you in Tails of Iron 2, at least financially!

If you are in need of a bit more gold, smash the barrels you’ll spot dotted around, often near to a save point. While this is a way to make some more money, doing quests is how you’ll earn most of it.

Those are my tips for Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter! I hope you find these pointers helpful, whether it’s getting to grips with fast traveling, or surviving a combat encounter with more than a whisker of health!
