In a series of posts on the game’s official social media account, Obsidian went into detail on how Avowed’s Character Creation and Backgrounds features “will shape how the world responds to you”.
Looking at Backgrounds, you choose from five roles: Arcade Scholar, Court Augur, Vanguard Scout, War Hero, and Noble Scion. This choice will decide what starting weapons and dialogue options you will have available at the beginning of your adventure.Â
In the thread the developers highighted the Noble Scion, and were quick to assure that these choices would not lock players out of options. When asked if there were only these presets, the team responded, “You can absolutely create your own characters!” We have a range of presets available and these Godlike envoys are fun examples of what's possible with our Character Creation menu.”
They showed off some rather bizarre portraits of characters the team had made in the Character Creation system, and it certainly looks like there will be a great deal of customisation. Scroll past the next image if you want to sleep tonight.
Avowed is the first of Xbox’s releases in a busy first half of 2025, now also confirmed to have South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Ninja Gaiden 4 courtesy of the Xbox Developer_Direct on Thursday.
Obsidian’s Avowed releases on February 18th on PC and Xbox Series X/S, with day-one access for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.
