With all the excitement of the latest Xbox Developer_Direct, it’s entirely forgivable to have missed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows got a new story trailer today.
The next big game in the popular franchise takes us to 16th Century Japan. In Shadows, the country is “on a brutal path to unification” which is being led by a powerful feudal lord (a daimyo), Oda Nobunaga. The land is in turmoil as new groups of foreigners “infiltrate” the country.
The game follows the stories of Naoe, the shinobi assassin, and Yasuke, the legenday samurai who must work together to overcome the chaos and help bring in a new era for Japan.

The trailer is pretty epic in setting the scene and the conflicts both Naoe and Yasuke will face. Interestingly was the tease of the ‘red cross’ of the Templar order, or the ‘Order of the Ancients’ as they’ve been known as in more recent games.
It’s going to be interest to see how the story plays out, and I wonder if we’re going to get any modern day story beats, I really want to know what’s going with Basim after Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows releases on 20 March 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
