Microsoft has announced that they will be supporting external storage larger than 16TB. The software update is rolling out to the public testers in the Alpha Skip-Ahead program.
In a blog post on the official Xbox site, they said “We are enabling support for external USB drives larger than 16TB, so you can be sure your favorite games are always ready to play!” The post went on to explain how this new update would work, explaining how “Newly formatted drives that are larger than 16TB will be formatted with multiple partitions to utilise all available space for games and apps. These will appear as multiple devices in the storage devices list.”
Like all of Xbox’s updates it will trickle down to larger groups for testing until it reaches the general public. This will likely take a few weeks.

It’s interesting to note that the blog post does not specify a new limit on storage space, implying that the new partition method would be applicable to all sizes of external storage. (Anyone got a petabyte hard drive?)
Along with this update, there are a few more features and fixes, including a new badge to help identify games that are on sale. Here’s hoping the next update Xbox makes adds a way to find available demos in the store!
Are you excited to get larger external storage for your Xbox?
