2024 was an incredible year for Metroidvania fans. We saw many fantastic games in the genre receive critical acclaim, and a fair few nominated at award shows, even leaving with a few trophies! A cursory glance at 2025 shows that we could be in for another year of great Metroidvanias, and one of the first to drop is Resetna.
Developed by Indie studio Today’s Games, Resetna is a Sci-Fi, 2.5D metroidvania set in a post-apocalyptic world. A once great civilisation has collapsed, and a threat known only as the Signal is driving the remaining robots to madness. You play as the eponymous Resetna, a combat-ready robot who is woken up by the APEX AI to uncover the secrets of Project Ascendance, and put a stop to the Signal. Along with their drone companion IXA, Resetna must traverse this broken society in an attempt to reset the world.
Spread across seven distinct biomes, from the remnants of Polis-13 to the toxic wasteland of Acidia, Resetna will contend with a horde of mechanical menaces as well as the environmental hazards of a broken world. Each zone holds secrets to the past and the antagonistic forces at play, inviting players to scour their surroundings for cryptic messages and clues to piece together the story.
Resetna will evolve as they upgrade their abilities and moves, and the player will use these in conjunction with IXA’s support skills to survive the dangers ahead and triumph over the hordes of crazed robots that stand in their way. Of course, no Metroidvania worth its pixels would be complete without big boss battles, and Resetna looks to have those ready to deploy!
As a huge fan of Metroidvanias, Resetna has definitely piqued my interest. The game’s clean visuals, visceral combat, and intriguing narrative have me ready to bust up some bots and silence that Signal, whatever the cost!
Resetna is set to release on January 31st for PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch, with a PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series release happening sometime in Q1 2025.
