In October of 2016 Nintendo Announced the Nintendo Switch that would forever change the way we play games. March 3rd will be the console’s eighth birthday. Since then it has sold 146 million units world wide as of September 2024. While this console revolutionized gaming for Nintendo fans, it has been leaving many yearning for an upgrade. One that goes beyond an OLED screen. Since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s performance issues, it has been becoming more and more apparent to players that they need a performance boost. Well, the wait is over.
Today Nintendo has finally announced the world's worst kept secret, the Nintendo Switch 2.
Details see light on what the Switch 2 actually is as today's announcement was more so just showing what it looks like and that's about it. What we do know is that it will feature backwards compatibility. The Switch 2 will run all Nintendo Switch games including physical Switch games.
We also didn't get a release date beyond a general 2025 release window. They announced a Nintendo Direct for April 2nd so it's reasonable to expect that to be a full deep dive on the Switch 2 and perhaps fill us in on what games the system might launch with.

If you want to go hands on with the console, Nintendo hosts events for consumers to go hands on with it. They are calling it “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events”. Below are a list of times and places that these events will take place.
