Stray Kite Studios, founded by developers of games like Age of Empires, Bioshock, and Borderlands 2, has announced their first original IP. Wartorn is a real-time tactics roguelite game, and will be entering early access on Steam and Epic Games Store in Spring 2025.
In a brief summary given on the game’s Steam Page, Wartorn is a “single-player, squad-based, roguelite campaign experience where players play as Yara and Elani, sisters who have been driven from their home and must traverse the wartorn Isles of Talaur to reach the safety of Beynun, their ancestral fortress.”

Wield elemental magic and take advantage of a comprehensive physics system to change the tide of battle in a flash of lightening or a gout of flame. “Water extinguishes fire, tar amplifies fire, electricity crackles across the ranks in wet conditions, and water can heal plant-based units. And that's just scratching the surface!”
Recruit new units from various fantasy races and add them to your caravan, each with their own characteristics and abilities. Through superior positioning, squad combos, and use of your abilities, victory is assured! If too many units are lost, morale will decrease, and once morale hits zero it’s game over. “Mix and match what squads you bring into battle to truly master a run.” Each playthrough will be different, with organic events and different choices shaping your campaign.
Finding the family members of Elani and Yara scattered across the Isles of Taleur will reveal more of the game’s story, and “grant the player heirlooms that bring with them new advantages and abilities for future runs.”
