Well, if you feel like you’ve read this far too much in the last few years, I’m with you. It looks like there’s more people working for Microsoft and in gaming as a whole who will be looking for a job.
Originally reported by Buisness insider, Microsoft will be laying off people from their security, devices, sales, and gaming divisions. A spokesman for Microsoft has stated the layoffs were small, though as of now, an exact figure in regards to the layoffs is unknown.

What’s also unknown is how many people this is adding to the growing list of people out of a job in relation to the gaming industry. Last year, Microsoft alone spent a big part of the year announcing layoff after layoff in the gaming sector, totaling 1,900 people before laying off over 650 people in September of 2024.
To say this has hit the gaming industry hard would be an understatement. According to Wikipedia, almost 15,000 people in the gaming industry lost their jobs in 2024, and Microsoft alone counts for a pretty large percent of that number. Hopefully, this is the last of them, and I hope the number of people is as small as Microsoft has implied.
Also as we reported earlier this week multiple studios have already shut down in 2025, suggesting the industry may not be out of its unfortunate job cutting phase.
