Will Ackermann, writer and designer of the critically acclaimed Golden Idol series has announced their own game, describing it as a “Rise of the Golden Idol-like.” The game, called City of Voices, is a collaborative project between the developer’s own studio Kini Games, and the pixel artist Matt Frith.
The game’s Steam page describes the game as a “deduction game that begins as a slice-of-life tale but soon transforms into something far more mysterious.” The game is set in England at the turn of the Millenium, and stars a yet unnamed girl as the protagonist. After being bullied on her first day of secondary school, she finds herself “thrust into a fantastical adventure"”more perilous and surreal than she could have ever imagined.”

Anyone familiar with the Golden Idol series will understand what to expect from City of Voices. The player must look for and examine clues to work out what as happened in each scenario, building a “heartfelt story full of twists and turns.” As the writer and developer of both The Case of the Golden Idol and The Rise of the Golden Idol, Will spoke with the other developers Andrejs and Ernests Kļaviņš before starting City of Voices. “I was quite nervous about asking Andrejs and Ernests, who co-created those games,” Will said in a statement, “for permission to essentially steal their mechanics, but luckily, they were flattered!”
To show their support even more, Andrejs and Ernests have a review up for the game already, saying they "Loved every minute of the demo."

City of Voices is planned for a PC release only, with no set release date.
