Gather The Wisps In Venture To The Vile – Wisp o’ The Willows Trophy

Venture to the Vile has many side quests to pick up from the eccentric cast of characters that reside in Rainybrook. However, there are some activities you can only find out exploring the surrounding areas. One such event is found in Lost Thicket, and involves escorting four wisps to a hidden grove. Successfully bringing these fae-like entities to safety rewards you with the Wisp o’ the Willows trophy.

In this guide, I will walk you through where to find the four wisps and their home, as well as some tips on how to make getting the Wisp o’ the Willows trophy easier.

If you’re reading this and haven’t started your journey into Venture to the Vile, check out our review!

Tips

  • Each wisp can be escorted to the safety of their grove individually, and will not reset if you leave the area, save your game, or change the time of day.
  • If you take damage when escorting a wisp, it will leave you and return to it’s tree stump, resetting your progress with that wisp. Consider killing all enemies on the paths used to transport the four wisps, or try to avoid combat.
  • There is a tree you can knock down to make a shortcut (I mention this in the guide). You definitely want to do this to make it easier to escort the last two wisps.

Fun Fact: Notice how the wisps will change the colour of the flora round you as you escort them. A really nice detail!

Locations Of The Four Wisps. Star Is Their Home.

Wisp #1.

Make your way to the back of the watermill on the ground floor and go through the opening in the wall on the left (you’ll need the heavy attack to break the wall).

Exit, Stage Left.

Follow the path over the water, and when you move to the foreground continue left passed the cottage to find a cave hidden by red bushes. (You can get the side quest Old Grave, Fresh Flowers from the wolf masked man by the grave. To finish the quest, find a mask inside the hidden cave where the wisp is.)

Make your way inside, killing all enemies on the way to make the return trip easier. At the back of the cave is the wisp flying round a tree trunk; stay near it for a moment and it will follow you.

The First Wisp.

Make your way out of the cave and head right, passed the campsite and move to the foreground again. Go left, moving forward a third time, and hit the tree standing to your right. This opens a shortcut which will make escorting the third and fourth wisps much easier.

Tree: Toppled.

Now go left and you will enter a peaceful, and very pink grove with a tall tree trunk standing at the back. Move to it and the wisp will leave you and orbit round the trunk.

Wisp #2.

Starting from the campsite to the right of the house and hidden cave, head to the right across the water to find a cave behind a waterfall! (YES!!!)

Who Doesn’t Love A Waterfall Cave?

Make your way round to the back to find the second wisp in its trunk, and escort it back out of the cave. Head back to the left and follow the path you took with the first wisp to take it back to the grove.

Wisp Number Two.

Wisp #3.

These next two wisps you could escort toegther, as they are on the same main path through the Lost Thicket that connects Winding Creek Gardens and the Vile Roots. This one is between the little stone bridge and the snake salesman’s stall.

The Penultimate Wisp.

Gather up the wisp and head to the left, being sure to not take damage along the way (worth clearing the path before doing these last two). Close to leaving Lost Thicket is a path into the background, sheltered by trees. Go through and head to the right, heading into the background a second time and go left over the toppled tree. Your way to the sacred grove is clear from here.

The Path Through The Trees.

Wisp #4.

This last wisp is found close to the exit to Winding Creek Gardens, making it likely the first you’ll find. Once it’s following you, head to the left passed where the third wisp was (or is if you want to do both at the same time), and follow the path back to the grove one last time.

The Last Wisp.

Congratulations! You have saved all the wisps scattered around the Lost Thicket, and earned yourself the Wisp o’ the Willows trophy!
