Intrigued by Venture to the Vile’s charming yet unsettling nature? Check out our full review of the game right here! If it was bad enough that there’s a horrifying corruption called the Vile infecting everyone and everything, and your best friend is missing, but people all over Rainybrook need your help! One such person is Tilly Trout, a young lady wearing a fish mask who is having no luck fishing under the main bridge in Rainybrook High Street. She will give you the side quest “Lucky Fishing”, tasking you with bringing her lucky horseshoes that are hidden all across the game. There are 33 in total, and finding them all completes the quest, and also unlocks the Lucky Beggar trophy!
What follows is a guide to collecting all 33 horseshoes, divided into the different areas that make up Venture to the Vile. You will need certain movement or combat abilities unlocked to reach some of these, and I’ll do my best to mention them when necessary.
Keep your eyes peeled, and let’s find all those horseshoes and net ourselves the Lucky Beggar trophy!
Rainybrook High Street – Eight Horseshoes
1.
Hanging from the ceiling in Dr Crow’s manor hallway. Double Jump to the left, use Wall Grab and then Jump/Dash combo to land on the chandelier on the right.

2.
There is a hole in the evidence room ceiling of the police station you need to Double Jump and Wall Grab through. Run to the left and find this horseshoe hidden behind the light.

3.
Speak with Lucy Owl in the little courtyard in front of the police station. She will give you access to the Forgotten Residence to the right passed The Lonely Book shop. Double Jump and Dash to the left into the bathroom, where the horseshoe waits.

4.
In the bathroom of the Toad and Crown Pub to the right of the bridge. It hangs within reach of a Double Jump.

5.
Head to the back of Porky Norman’s Butcher and go down the hall to the back, and the horseshoe.

6.
Found inside the large house next to the butcher where the Nag Appreciation Society is being held. Head below the bridge passed Tilly Trout and eavesdrop on the two goons to learn the password. Once you have access, head inside and the go left. The horseshoe is hanging up amongst some hay and barrels.

7.
Inside Betty Badger’s Fineries, hanging from the ceiling in the outfit room. Double Jump to grab it.

8.
Once you find Therese Cat on your travels East on the map, the Unnatural History Museum opens up. Go inside and head up the stairs to the very top floor to find the horseshoe hanging from the ceiling. Double Jump is all you need.

The Lanes – Two Horseshoes

9.
Head back into the school grounds and go to the right, where a horseshoe is hanging from the swing set.

10.
Walk through the Lanes until you reach a yellow townhouse next to a small courtyard. Go inside and make your way up to the next floor up. At the left side is a destroyed stairwell where the horseshoe waits.
Gracious Anne’s Infirmary – Two Horseshoes
11.
From the entrance, head left through the Infirmary until you find your first nurse monster. Head into the back area and go left through a room full of cages. On the far left is the horseshoe.
We are one third of the way to unlocking that Lucky Beggar trophy, let’s keep going!

12.
Once you have got access to the basement and boiler system, make your way through the valve puzzle, and watch out for steam. Once you solve that, back track to the right side of the basement and move to the near plane. Double Jump off the right wall and Dash to the floor above; the horseshoe is to the left.

Reeking Marshes – Two Horseshoes
13.
At the section consisting of ziplines. After using the first one, walk to the back plane where a second zipline goes to the left. Under it is the horseshoe.

14.
Make your way to the back of the area towards the windmill and keep an eye out for a small stone bridge which is breakable with the ground smash ability. Follow the path until you are jumping across wooden platforms. Just passed the gallows is the horseshoe under a platform.

Windmill – Two Horseshoes
15.
Both of these horseshoes need you to have the Grapple Hook, Double Jump, Wall Grab, Ground Smash, and Dash. Make your way through the Windmill until you get to a section involving travelling on conveyor belts and hook points.
The first one is hanging in the air above you after jumping up a vertical shaft after riding one of the conveyor belts.

16.
The second one can be reached once you’ve unlocked the first part of the vertical shortcut with grapple points on the right hand side of the Windmill. Take the path heading to the back of the building just above the ground floor and drop down to find the horseshoe tucked away in the corner.

Seasalter Harbour – Four Horseshoes
17.
Head to the back of Derek Mouse’s gym and go up the stairs on the left. The horseshoe is hanging up above the punching bags.

18.
Inside Elsie’s Parlour, at the back where you place the masks she tasks you with finding. It is hanging below the top platform.

19.
Take the path back onto the wooden jetties in front of the large Seasalter metal sign, and then head to the right. Instead of jumping across the gap, drop down and go back under to the left; the horseshoe is here.

20.
This horseshoe is accessible via the beach. Run across the sands until you can take a path back under the jetties. Work your way through until you reach a campsite. The horseshoe is just to the left, hidden by the supports.

Weeping Willow Cemetery – Three Horseshoes
21.
Enter the Weeping Willow Cemetery and head left from the large statue at the entrance. In front of the Doug Possum’s house is some scaffolding, and the horseshoe is hanging underneath it.

22.
Once you have cleared the area around Doug’s house as part of his side quest “Grave Keeper’s Keeping”, he will give you access to his home. Inside Double Jump to the top right corner and grab the horseshoe.
Only the last third to go. That Lucky Beggar trophy is within reach!

23.
Make your way to the collapsed ruins on the far left end of the second lane in Weeping Willows Cemetery (it is signposted with the Roman Numeral II). Make it to the left side of the ruins and make your way up the tall, vertical shaft to the top. Traverse across broken rooves and temporary platforms until you reach two wooden platforms. The horseshoe is hanging under the left one (if you miss grabbing it, you’ll have to repeat the process to get back up). You’ll need Double Jump, Wall Grab and Dash.

Weeping Willow Mausoleum – Two Horseshoes
24.
In the Mausoleum is a puzzle where you turn cranks in the background to move chandeliers up and down in the foreground. Set them all to their highest point, and then head to the right hand side of them. Use the grappling hook to reach them and then platform across to the left using Double Jump and Dash. Once you reach the left side of the building, walk to the back plane and jump up to grab this horseshoe above this wooden structure.

25.
Continue to climb up the mausoleum from here to gain access to the rafters of the building. After taking a long walk along a wooden rafter to the right, you will be above the organ area near where the boss fight takes place. Tucked away in the lower left is the horseshoe.

Stanley Road – One Horseshoe
26.
This horseshoe is hanging from a powerline just passed your old home and the Old Duck’s Emporium.

Winding Creek Gardens – One Horseshoe
27.
Make your way to the excavation site. The horseshoe is hanging under a wooden platform (where you can find one of Ms Squirrels schoolkids) on the left side.

Lost Thicket – Two Horseshoes
28.
This horseshoe is hanging under a wooden platform to the right of the watermill, and is accessible from the ground via a wall jump, or dropping down from above with a Dash or Double Jump.

29.
Go inside the watermill and get to the back of the building, and jump up the broken stairs before the sawblades. Head left and instead of moving back to the front, break the weak ceiling above you and use the Grapple Hook to get up into the attic. The horseshoe is to the left of the hole. (Fun Fact: this was the last horseshoe I found, using the “Homing Harmony” upgrade you can unlock through the Mutated Viscera skill tree!)

Black Hill Mines – Two Horseshoes
30.
Take the lift down hitting the middle switch, and make your way through this floor until you reach. As a rule, head left when you can, and you should reach a large chamber with a wooden building in the background on the left. Reach this break room to grab the horseshoe. You will need Double Jump, Wall Grab and Dash.

31.
Take the elevator to the bottom floor and work your way through to the generator you need to turn on to progress the story. Climb up the shaft to the right Double Jump/Dash combo across to the left side. The horseshoe is hanging under the broken walkway.

Rainybrook Sewers – Two Horseshoes
32.
Just to the left of the campsite in the Rainybrook Sewers is this Horseshoe.

33.
From the signposted crossroads in the Rainybrook Sewers walk towards the screen and go right. Jump the small gap and fight through the tunnels full of sewer walkers. Once you reach some water with drain pipes you can open with corresponding valves, go left and find this horseshoe.
