All the Sniper Elite: Resistance Intel We Can Find

Between Rebellion and MachineGames, we have surely got the Nazis licked. MachineGames with Wolfenstein, and the soon to be released Indiana Jones and The Great Circle; Rebellion with it’s wondrous sandbox shooter, Sniper Elite. Well, prepare yourselves Soldier, bunker down and get ready, because we’re getting both the new Indy and a new Sniper Elite game within two months of each other!!

Sniper Elite: Resistance is the (fairly) recently announced next entry in the long running sniping franchise, and is a full blown standalone game, with single player, co-op campaign, multiplayer and the fan-favourite Invasion mode making a return.

Instead of focusing on the usual protagonist, American Sniper extraordinaire, Karl Fairburne, we’re getting a new perspective for the series in the form of British sniping legend, Harry Hawker. Since its reveal in August, developers Rebellion have been drip feeding us regular snippets of intel of what we can expect to see in the upcoming game.

And, because we’re nice like that, we’ve pulled all the intel we can find into one helpful place, so you’ve got all the info you need before you head into Nazi-occupied Southern France!

Who is Harry Hawker?

Harry Hawker, is your main man in Sniper Elite: Resistance. A rough and rugged sounding, but with impeccable hair, British sniping legend. He was first spotted in the series in Sniper Elite 3 who helped Karl take on the Nazis in Africa. He is a member of the Special Operations Executive (SOE). Harry hates Nazis (I suspect he’s probably in the majority), and will do anything to take them down.

In the story of Sniper Elite: Resistance, Harry is active in France, 1944, at the same time as Karl Fairburne in Sniper Elite 5. Harry is working with the French Resistance in the south of occupied France, investigating the Nazis new and troublesome Wunderwaffe (wonder weapon) which is suspected to be so powerful it will win the war for the Nazis.

Why Resistance? Where’s Sniper Elite 6?

Why not? And, no idea!

Sniper Elite: Resistance is going to look and feel very familiar from the looks of things. It has the same UI and mechanics (in the main) as Sniper Elite 5, it’s built in the same engine for sure. Given that it’s a game that runs in parallel to the fifth entry, that makes sense. I like that they went with Resistance, although we can probably assume Sniper Elite 6 is in the works, in some form, though we have no evidence to suggest it is at present, it might be a way off.

Rebellion’s got a few games cooking at the moment, with Atomfall, and Zombie Army VR coming up in the future. An extra game around Sniper Elite 5 timeline and mechanics sooner than a longer wait for a full blown sequel sounds like a win for me. Plus we get to see a brand new protagonist, a new story, a new mechanic too, Propaganda missions.

Propaganda missions are additional, side quests, that can be accessed by finding genuine propaganda posters in the level. Accessing the mission puts you in the boots of a resistance fighter where you have to complete a different, sometimes unique objective, within a set time frame. For those of you screaming “NOT TIMED MISSIONS NOOOOOO”, it seems that these are designed to be shorter and snappier, so we’ll see if they are a pain or not when the game releases.

What can I expect to be doing in Sniper Elite: Resistance?

There’s a whole load of stuff to get your teeth stuck into when the game comes out from the looks of things:

  • Full blown campaign that can be completed in single-player and co-op. Resistance will continue to have the free play open map levels, where you choose how you tackle your objectives and encounters.
  • The return of Invasion mode, invade another sniper’s single player game as an Axis power sniper, and hunt them in a tense game of cat and mouse.
  • Battle it out online in up to 16-player multiplayer modes, or team up in a squad of three for wave based ‘Survival’ mode.
  • All the gruesome and humourous x-ray kills you can do, along with a whole range of challenges, kill lists and unlocks for weapons to find throughout the game.

When and where can I play it?

Sniper Elite: Resistance will release on 30 January 2025 (nearly happy birthday to me!), and will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series consoles. It’s also launching day one on Xbox Game Pass.

That’s everything for now Soldier. How are you feeling now you’ve seen all of this intel? Feel ready to take on the Nazis once more?

I’m super excited for this one, I love me some sneaky sneaky, shooty shooty.
