Early this morning, the Nintendo Company announced that the successor to the Nintendo Switch would be backwards compatible. They also confirmed that Nintendo Switch Online would be available on the follow up console.
In a post made on Twitter/X, the president of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the Switch successor would be backwards compatible and have Nintendo Switch Online, with more details to be “announced at a later date."
This follows shortly after Nintendo reiterated that they planned to announce their next piece of console hardware by March 31st 2025, the end of the fiscal year.

This will come as great news to Nintendo fans, who may have had worries about how the company would handle the Switch successor. As of this July, the Switch is the Nintendo console with the longest lifespan before being replaced. This means that who have built up a digital library of games on their Nintendo Switch will be able to enjoy them on the new hardware.
It is amazing to think that in the year 2024 Nintendo and its fans are dealing with the same situation Xbox and Playstation had in 2013, over a decade later! Again, just another reminder of how Nintendo continues to march to the beat of their own drum, and to great success.
