The more I see of Atomfall, the more and more it is becoming my most anticipated upcoming game. The upcoming single-player survival action by the Sniper Elite developers, Rebellion, is due to release early next year. In anticipation, the good folks at Rebellion have just treated us to an in-depth look at some of the gameplay and world of Atomfall (on a Sunday afternoon no-less!).
I’d previously described Atomfall as ‘Fallout Britain‘, in a good way, and that comparison persists as an accurate descriptor, for now at least. What I really like about Atomfall, from what we’ve seen, is the character Rebellion is putting into the game. That comes across in this new deep dive, narrated by a ‘proper’ sounding Englishmen, Jon McNally, who guides you through some of the key aspects of Atomfall’s world in his calming lilt.
There are lots to discover in the Atomfall’s 1960s world. The game is inspired by the real-life Windscale nuclear disaster that took place in the North of Britain in 1957. The game is set five years later and the residents of the area have been under a fictitious quarantine, called ‘Protocol’. In that time, various strange occurrences have taken place, and things are getting a bit…unusual.
Factions have formed across the land, so not only do you have to deal with the Army and the British Atomic Research Division (delightfully named B.A.R.D), but you’ll have to combat increasingly unhinged townsfolk. Something’s amiss, and part of your task is to figure out what the bleedin’ ‘ell is going on!

That leaves you to explore the countryside, valleys, abandoned (mostly) research stations, and eerie caves to scavenge, and get to the root of what is happening.
You’ll get to play with a range of melee and ranged weapons. In the video we see baseball bats to the face, throwing knives to the head and axes to the shoulders and plenty of Molotov cocktail opportunities. And it’s not just humans you’ll be fighting. There’s the B.A.R.D robots that are equipped with machine guns and flamethrowers, as well as the blue, glowing zombie-like creatures that seem buried in the caves and bunkers. There’s also the option of stealth too, which is always a welcome addition (if implemented well of course).

Atomfall is due to release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles in early 2025. It will also release on Xbox Game Pass on release.
Are you looking forward to Atomfall?
