For most of 2024 Square Enix has talked about wanting to take a more multi-platform approach to their games. For awhile now the company has relied on exclusive deals with PlayStation and they want to change that. However perhaps their biggest game this generation remains PlayStation console exclusive, but that may be changing.
Final Fantasy 16 released in 2023 as a PlayStation exclusive. Earlier this year the game released on PC however we still have not seen the game appear on Xbox. Exclusivity deals generally have a length of time on them of a year or 2, so is it possible we see the most recent mainline Final Fantasy game come to the platform?

In an interview with Video Games on Sports Illustrated the legend of Square Enix himself Naoki Yoshida, aka Yoshi-P talked about their desire to bring Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox.
“Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox,” Yoshida said. “But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything. But of course, I want to say that it's not as if there's zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that. So players should not give up in terms of their hopes.”
So while we may not have anything concrete to announce, it does at least appear to be in the works for an Xbox port. Fans have clamoured for the game to come to the platform however Square should likely temper their expectations should they port the game. If Final Fantasy 16 does come to Xbox it likely will be 2+ years since the games release. In a world where everyone wants the newest games, that might be a tough sell to get people to buy.

Xbox themselves have been working hard to bring games from Asia to the Xbox platform with games such as Genshin Impact recently announced for the platform as well as long running exclusive franchises such as Yakuza/Like A Dragon and Persona making their way to the Xbox console over the last few years just to name a few.
Whatever happens this seems like another step in the right direction for Xbox to get more of these big games from Square and Asia in general.
