It was being speculated online after Ubisoft’s decision to pull out of it’s preview at Tokyo Game Show, but now it’s official. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is officially delayed until 14 February 2025 on PC (including Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series consoles.
Sharing the news via a financial update press release, Ubisoft noted that the upcoming action role playing game was ‘feature complete’ but the team wanted to spend more time polishing the game for the best experience possible.
The statement acknowledged the launch issues and player feedback gleaned from the launch of last month’s Star Wars: Outlaws which, although generally well-received, had some notable launch bugs, but a lot of these were quickly patched.

They also noted a change in direction with the launch of Shadows, moving away from the ‘traditional season pass model’. This means that all players will access the game at the same time (removing the previously announced early access editions) as well as getting rid of any season passes.
It was confirmed that all existing preorders are going to be cancelled, and any preorders going forward will include the first DLC expansion for free.
The financial statement also noted that Star Wars: Outlaws has performed “softer than expected” despite generally favourable reviews. There was a commitment in the statement to implement a series of updates to polish and improve player experience in order to engage a wider audience ahead of the festive period, also confirming a Steam release on 21 November.
So there we have it. I’ve always been a firm believer of taking the time needed to make the game the best it can be. I’d rather a delayed game than a buggy mess on launch. What are your thoughts around this?
