Bungie Lays Off 17% of their Workers

On the morning of July 31st 2024, PlayStation owned Bungie announced that it has joined the massive amount of gaming related layoffs that have happened in 2024 that include studios like Microsoft, Ubisoft, and more recently Humble. The full statement can be found in a link in the tweet below.

In the statement on their website, they detail that due to rising costs, development and industry shifts, and economic conditions, it will be laying off 220 people or 17% of its workforce. It also detailed how they will be working with owners, Sony, to create a new studio that will be managing a title they were ‘incubating’, a new action game set in a sci-fi fantasy universe.

This isn’t the first time in the last year this has happened to Bungie. If you’ll recall back in October of 2023 Bungie also layoff around 100 people or 8% of its workforce citing the poor sales of its Destiny 2 DLC, The Final Shape which despite its sales is holding a respectable 81% rating on Steam.

My heart goes out to those effected by the layoffs. Comment below with any thoughts you may have.
