We are on the eve of the Xbox Showcase and anticipation and excitement is building for what we might see. The last few years Xbox has for the most part delivered on these shows and with the Activision deal now complete Xbox has more first party games at their disposal than ever to put on an even better show.
Now when people start thinking about these shows you often see expectations way out of wack, and while I have high expectations for this show let's get this out of the way. There's gonna be a lot absent from this show. People think we're gonna get updates on every single first party game under the sun and that's simply just unreasonable.
To be fair to these fans if Xbox ever was going to flex it's muscle and show just how insanely large there first party catalog is now, they definitely could. These shows typically have about 25-30 games in them between first and third party and at this point Xbox likely could fill those slots with just first party. But that's just unrealistic. So if at the end of this article you say "what about game X and Y" I'm here to say what I don't list could show up but stuff is ultimately going to be excluded from the show for various reasons.
So without further delay, let's get into what I think we will see tomorrow.
Release Dates
Of course one big thing from this show will be release dates for many Xbox games. Most of these should be slam dunks to appear. And it's a lot. Xbox in the past has been known to stack the holiday season with their releases and have marketing about this being their biggest and best year for Xbox when marketing their lineups. I fully expect that this year and it to be hammered home throughout the show.
Avowed

Avowed is expected to be one of Xbox's major games for the later half of 2024. I'm less confident on when but I'll say September for Obsidian's latest RPG.
Indiana Jones

Xbox's other major title that we know is scheduled for 2024, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle is all but assured to have a big presence at the showcase. Because it has more brand recognition I expect this one to drop in October or November.
Flight Simulator 2024

Flight Sim is another slam dunk coming to the showcase, I mean it's called Flight Sim 2024! There's been rumours that Xbox might shadow drop a game at this show and I actually think this might be it. It's a perfect summer game and doesn't really need a huge marketing push.
Ara History Untold

Currently this is only scheduled to release on PC with an Xbox date coming later. I'm high on this one so I'm gonna wish it into existence that they've pushed the Xbox version to be day one as well. I have zero confidence in that but wishful thinking. Regardless I think we do see a release date for the game at least on PC. Since it will likely be PC only I'll say this is October
Age Of Mythology Retold

Another strategy game Age Of Mythology Retold is a remake of the classic game and has had a 2024 window set for quite some time. I think we finally get that date with an August release.
Towerborne

Towerborne is a smaller title signed on by Xbox Game Publishing being developed by Stoic. Due to it being a bit of a smaller title and therefore likely being digital only I can see Towerborne being the surprise shadow drop if Flight Sim isn't. It's similar in Hi-Fi Rush's scope which was shadow dropped last year and fills the game pass catalog during these slower summer months. If it's not a shadow drop I can see another August release date for this.
Call Of Duty Black Ops 6

Obviously we know for sure this is coming with the Call Of Duty direct following the show. Not much to say here as Call Of Duty is pretty predictable. Expect a late October or early November release date. Also expect them to say day 1 on game pass roughly 632 times.
Starfield Shattered Space

Finally we have the long awaited Starfield Shattered Space expansion from Bethesda. Todd Howard announced that this is dropping in the fall so I'd expect to see this announced. I for some reason have a feeling this might slip into early 2025 to give it more polish and to give games like Indiana Jones and Avowed some space to breathe and give Xbox some punch to start 2025.
So there you have it. If you are keeping tally that's potentially 8 releases for the rest of 2024 from Xbox. At first glance that seems like too many, and maybe it is and one or 2 of these slip to 2025 to spread things out a bit. But I think Xbox goes big the rest of the year to make a statement. Xbox finally has all their studios churning out games and with so many studios we should finally start seeing the fruits of their labor.
Updates On Announced Titles
Another big part of the show will be games we already know about getting new trailers to show them off and let us see the progress being made. These are likely the trailers people are most excited for as not as much is known about these games as some of the ones mentioned above.
Fable

Fable is one of the biggest games Xbox has in its bag of tricks and after last years impressive showing I expect we see it again. I'm thinking Fable is a 2025 game so we should be seeing more and more of it sooner rather than later.
State Of Decay 3

State Of Decay 3 was announced all the way back in 2020 and we haven't heard a thing since. I think this year is the year we finally get a glimpse at what Undead Labs has been cooking up. The biggest question will be how close it resembles that announce trailer as it was certainly a big change from the first two games.
Update: Weird to update this while I'm still writing it but a press release leaked on the state of decay website confirming this will be at the show.
Everwild

This is more so me throwing a Hail Mary. I'm a huge Rare fan and I've been eagerly anticipating Everwild ever since they announced it. At this point no one even knows what the game is, or if it's still in development. I don't actually think it will be there tomorrow, but I'll be so happy if it is.
Live Service Updates
The least exciting parts of the show, but necessary are the big updates coming to all the live service games. While they may not have the wow factor of other titles they serve their fans well and as always there will be a few here.

Speaking of Rare, their last game Sea Of Thieves has become a staple at the Xbox Showcases and I expect that to continue in 2024 with likely just a new season update. Maybe we get a cool new update like the Pirates Of The Carribean or Monkey Island collabs.
World Of Warcraft

Without Blizzcon this year I fully expect to see the latest World Of Warcraft expansion to be seen at the Showcase. Quite frankly even if there was a Blizzcon this year it might still be here. World Of Warcraft was one of the jewels in the Activision Blizzard King deal so it would make sense they want to show it off. Some are hoping to see it come to console, and while it might, I don't expect to see that announced here.
Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls online likely makes an appearance as well. The Gold Road expansion is out on Xbox in a couple weeks so I'd expect to see a little trailer reminding everyone of that.
Fallout 76

This one I don't see many talking about. I'm not too sure what they'd have to show for Fallout 76 but with the success of the recent Amazon show I feel like it would be a missed opportunity to not have it present in some capacity.
The "Surprises"
This is what gets everyone on the edge of their seats as it's always exciting to see something completely new. I use quotations on surprises because sadly stuff has leaked and we therefore know about them or they have been talked about so much that it won't be a big surprise to see them at the show
Doom The Dark Ages

Just imagine the reaction if this was kept under wraps. With Doom The Dark Ages having been leaked by insiders this won't have quite the same pop if it wasn't leaked but it will still have a huge reaction I'm sure. Will they mention PlayStation at all?
Gears 6

Gears 6 has been talked about a lot lately and it seems all but certain we finally see the next game from The Coalition. The big questions are does it go more back to its roots or go bigger into the open world of Gears 5. Also can we please go back to being Gears Of War?
I expect there to be probably one other surprise show up that we don't know about, but I have no idea what it could be.
Hardware & Mobile
Finally we get to hardware and mobile. A lot of talk is about an Xbox handheld and mid gen refresh. I think when it comes to the handheld there's too much smoke for there to be no fire. When even Phil Spencer is talking about wanting an Xbox handheld I think it exists and I think we see it here.
I don't think we see a mid gen refresh though. It feels like Xbox is skipping that and launching the next gen ahead of schedule instead. Could be wrong though.
The other major piece of this is the mobile store. We already know it's coming and I think they will unveil a bit more about it. I'm not sure this will get much time but it will at least be mentioned.
Final Thoughts
So these are my official predictions and a preview of what to expect. This leaves out a few big games like Clockwork Revolution, Perfect Dark and others but like I said not everything will be here. You can also expect a bunch of third party stuff like Visions of Mana and Flintlock The Siege Of Dawn.
No matter what happens tomorrow I hope everyone enjoys the show and gets what they wanted to see!
