So we get a positive Ubisoft story in the official reveal of Assassin’s Creed Shadows earlier today (which looks amazing!), but we also learned some negative news too; Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland has been cancelled.
In an earnings release earlier today it was announced that resources from developer Red Storm Entertainment would be reallocated to focus on “bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six”. The Division Heartland was a planned to be a free-to-play standalone third person multiplayer shooter set in the The Division universe in Middle America. Alas it is never to see the light of day, Ubisoft commented:
“After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland, effective immediately. Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our Red Storm Entertainment studio, who will be transitioning to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”

This follows a spate of reshuffling and realigning of priorities, with a number of projects reportedly cancelled in recent months. This seems to be an ongoing trend of the games industry with multiple studio closures, layoffs, and cancelled projects rocking the community on the regular. At least, this cancellation hasn’t led to anyone losing their jobs (as yet).
