So this spoke to me a little. I have been lamenting a little about the lack of releases for PSVR2, and not that they don’t exist, there’s certainly plenty out there (my review of Tin Hearts VR is testament to that). BUT, I do feel that there’s been a lack of PSVR2 announcements compared the glut of Meta Quest 3 announcements lately (looks longingly at recently announced Batman Arkham Shadow).
Well anyway, in my Tin Hearts review I noted that I’d been largely using my PSVR2 for rhythm action games, and I have no shame in saying that I am excited to see a brand new one is coming on 9 July in the form of Spin Rhythm XD.
Not going to lie, I had to look up what the freakin’ hell this game was. So according to the PlayStation Blog, it’s a “kinetic rhythm-action game where players move, tap, slide, scratch, and spin to the beat all while traveling through incredible reactive backgrounds.” Sounds fun, no?!
Releasing on PS4 and PS5 without the need for VR, players can play with their controller, in particular on PS5 using the Dualsense’s ‘sense’ features to get through the stages, such as using the touchpad to scratch like a DJ. But of course, the exciting thing (for me) is the announcement of the VR mode that will be launching at the same time (and for free on Steam for the PC version).
The PS VR2 Sense controllers provide the input that turns the play area into a kind of interdimensional drum kit. Move your main hand pointer inside the wheel to rotate, flick to spin and smash down to hit tap notes, keep your off-hand ready to hit the green beat notes.

The game will include over 60 tracks (chock full of artists I’ve never heard of!) with five different difficulties providing a raft of challenges, especially if you’re going for the Platinum trophy (there are apparently 40 trophies to snag).
Spin Rhythm XD is also available on Nintendo Switch (but this won’t be receiving a VR update).
Anyone else looking forward to this release?
