With rumours running rampant (from everyone but us) this weekend about Microsoft deciding to exit the console, Microsoft themselves have released a statement denying any of it is true.
Jez Corden of Windows Central had a piece earlier this weekend stating that his sources within Xbox were telling him that Xbox next gen plans were still in place. Since that piece Microsoft responded to Windows Central’s request for a comment and provided the following statement:
“We are actively investing in our future first-party consoles and devices designed, engineered and built by Xbox. For more details, the community can revisit our agreement announcement with AMD.”

The fact that Microsoft even has to issue this statement mere months after announcing them in the first place tells you where Xbox is at in terms of public perception. Whether these rumours were founded on legitimate information or just someone capitalizing on the current negativity around Xbox, only they know.
Some detractors will also likely point to Microsoft’s constantly changing messaging and say it could still be true despite the statement.
All around this has been a bad week for Xbox. They announced a massive change in their Xbox Game Pass model including a 50% price hike on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. These changes were met with mostly negative reactions from the community and even caused the page for cancelling Game Pass to crash.
Hopefully things will look up for Xbox later this month with 3 first party titles coming later this month with Keeper, Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2.
