Level 5 has confirmed that Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is set to release simultaneously worldwide later this year and that the game will also mark the series’ PC and PlayStation debut.
It’s been over three years since Professor Layton and the New World of Steam was revealed at the February 2023 Nintendo Direct showcase. Originally slated for release in 2025, the game was delayed late last year to an ambiguous “2026” date, while also making its playable debut. Since then, Level 5 has delayed and announced various other titles, but in today’s Level 5 Vision showcase, CEO Akihiro Hino confirmed that the game is in the final stages of development.
In the latest trailer, the studio revealed that Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will now launch on PC and PlayStation 5 alongside the Switch and Switch 2 versions. The trailer also reveals more information regarding the game’s narrative, showcasing a new cast of characters that Luke and Layton will encounter while solving the mystery of the city of Steam Bison.
According to Hino, Level 5 is currently completing development of the game’s core content, with Japanese voice over having fully finished recording. English localization has also begun, leading to the confirmation that the game will have a simultaneous worldwide launch.
It was also revealed that the game’s theme song will be written by Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi and J-pop singer-songwriter Lilas. Hisaishi previously collaborated with Level 5 to compose the music for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and its 2018 sequel.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will release later this year for PC, PS5, Switch, and Switch 2.
