Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has received a new developer commentary trailer as part of the Triple-i Initiative showcase, revealing new information regarding its story and gameplay.
As recently revealed by Konami, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be a return to the 2D metroidvania roots of the series. Development is being handled mainly by Dead Cells co-developers Evil Empire and Motion Twin, and follows a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, equipped with the famous Vampire Killer whip.
The new trailer featured in the Triple-i Initiative showcase features team members from Evil Empire and Konami commentating over new gameplay, revealing that the game is set in 1499 Paris, which is being invaded by Dracula’s spawn. The identity of the new protagonist is still being kept under wraps, but a boss was revealed in the form of a corrupt Joan of Arc.
While it is a very brief look at the game, the footage reveals that many of the platforming and gameplay mechanics will return from past entries such as Symphony of the Night. The game will retain the RPG mechanics of the metroidvania entries too, as the protagonist can be seen leveling up at one point.
As for who that protagonist is and why her identity is being kept a mystery remains to be seen, so hopefully it won’t be too long until we get to see more of the game in action.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will release for PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
