Hands on with Paranormal Activity: Threshold at Pax East

For starters, the author of this piece is not a horror game person. I don’t play them often due to the physical reaction that my body just can’t resist. According to some people though, this makes me the perfect person to watch play horror games. My face betrays any bit of bravery I try to put forth. My muscles tense up ready to fight or flight. My fists clench ready to punch away any horror that may arrive. The adrenaline pumps and I audibly scream. Yet somehow, at Pax East 2026, I found myself on the show floor playing Paranormal Activity: Threshold.

The demo at Pax started out simple enough. A young couple have purchased a house with plans to remodel it. For whatever reason, Daniel has decided to film their experience along the way. Through found footage, we get to see the good, the bad, and the weird. It’s the weird and unsettling that will set the stage for this entry into the Paranormal Activity franchise.

During the demo at Pax, players took control not only of the couple, but also as the Investigator who comes in when things go awry in the house. There’s a combination of found footage, mysterious items, secrets, and of course, weird paranormal ongoings for players to engage with. Throughout the demo, there were moments of quiet calmness that would give way to moments of intense insecurity that led to the jumpscares along the way. So much so, that I had to step away from the demo. The atmospheric tension truly delivers and this is one that horror game fans should be on the look out for.

One on one with Developer Brian Clarke

This probably comes as no surprise to horror fans when realizing that the developer behind the upcoming Paranormal Activity: Threshold is also the developer of the Mortuary Assistant. So for those who are fans of his previous work, this will be one to keep an eye on.

Luckily, after playing the demo, Gamer Social Club had the opportunity to talk with Brian Clarke about the demo and even snuck in a question about the Mortuary Assistant movie that was recently released on Shudder. Be sure to check out our interview with Brian on our YouTube or down below.

There is no release date just yet, but once it’s announced we will be sure to let everyone know. In the meantime, you can wishlist the game on Steam. When it comes out will you be brave enough to tackle this mystery? Let us know in the comments down below!
