With Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream just less than two weeks away, Nintendo has finally begun revealing key details of how players can customize their island experience via an FAQ published on its website.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the long-awaited third installment in the oddball social simulation series that sees players controlling an island full of Mii’s. Players spend time managing their relationships and setting their interests as they partake in a slew of randomized activities and events. Nintendo released a demo last month to showcase a few of the game’s ideas, which allowed players to create three characters to get to grips with the newly revamped Mii character creator, which has vastly improved since the 3DS entry.
Now, Nintendo has released an FAQ clearing up some concerns regarding the full release following the demo. While usable in the demo, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2’s ‘Handheld Boost Mode’ will not be enabled for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. This is because the game will support an enhanced targeted 1080p resolution on the Switch 2 in handheld mode. This will allow for the touchscreen to be used during gameplay (which is disabled by default during Handheld Boost Mode). Unfortunately, the FAQ also confirms that the Switch 2’s mouse controls will not be available in the game.
Mii Registration & Capture Limitations
The article also reveals that up to 70 Mii characters can be registered within the game. While it isn’t entirely clear, it seems to imply that this is the maximum number of Mii,s for a single island. It is a step down from the 3DS game’s 100 character limit. However, given the comparative scale of the game, this feels like a fair compromise.

As previously revealed, Mii’s cannot be shared online in Living the Dream, even ditching the original entries’ QR code method of sharing customized characters. Characters can also not be imported from Miitopia or other games featuring the Mii avatars. However, players can import those made on their Nintendo Switch systems using the built-in Mii Maker tool.
Finally, while images cannot be shared to the Nintendo Switch mobile app, image and video captures are enabled for Living the Dream and the Welcome Version demo. In order to share captures, players will need to transfer their images and videos to a PC or a Micro SD Card or Express Micro SD Card.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on April 16.
