At yesterday’s Xbox Partner Preview event which saw some excellent games revealed for Xbox and other platforms, indie publisher re-revealed indie, Forever Ago. Which was revealed, well, forever ago.
This single player road trip from Third Shift was originally revealed in 2020, for a 2021 release. But with a pandemic and other factors at play, work on Forever Ago went very quiet for a long time. After such a long hiatus, the game will finally be releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Xbox / Windows and Steam) this fall. The game will be a Day One Game Pass title and support Xbox Play Anywhere.
The developers acknowledged the long silence on development saying: “we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes. And today, we’re incredibly excited to finally share a big update with you!” – which you can watch below:
Playing as Alfred, we’ll set on a journey north in our trusty RV on a journey “about the people we meet along the way”. The game looks very much of the gameplay style of my beloved Life is Strange (stay tuned for our Reunion review) as Alfred takes his camera on this journey of redemption, meeting interesting people and new friends on the way.
The game promises a heartfelt story and many beautiful diverse environments including deserts and ‘serene forests’. With emotional themes of broken dreams, loss and regret, Alfred’s connection to sweetheart, Audrey will be explored throughout the road trip.
As a huge fan of basically all Annapurna’s single-player games, I cannot wait for this. There’s just the (not so) small factor of their other upcoming title, Mixtape to come first.
