In quite a bit of a surprise for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a reveal that Fox McCloud will be in the movie was posted on the official X page. This comes as a surprise, as it features not only a crossover from a non-Mario character but also a character that has also been dormant for a decade now.
Star Fox was once among Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, with the first game being a landmark game on the SNES and Star Fox 64 being one of the best games on the N64 platform. After that, however, Fox didn’t have as many strong releases, and after the disappointing Star Fox Zero, he was put on hiatus. Since then, Fox has only appeared in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and was featured in a DLC pack for Starlink: Battle for Atlas.

If Nintendo is having him appear in the Mario movie, however, it’s not far-fetched to think that a new entry in the franchise could be on the way, as the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is sure to smash at the box office and will put a lot of eyes on Fox and any of the other crew if they appear.
This could also potentially hint at Nintendo’s future movie plans. A movie for Zelda is already in development, and a Donkey Kong movie is also in development. There’s also potential for a Metroid movie. If Nintendo has all these films in development and is exploring crossovers already, could a movie based on Super Smash Bros. be in the not-too-distant future? It’s fun to speculate what could come out of this. For now, it’s just great to see a gaming icon be put back in the spotlight, even if only briefly. The fact that his appearance was confirmed before the movie comes out makes me think Fox won’t just have a 5-second cameo, though.
