Use our 1348 Ex Voto: Unlock the Saint Trophy / Achievement Guide to see what you need to do to unlock this trophy / achievement.

1348 Ex Voto tells the tale of a young knight-errant, Aeta, who is looking for her cherished friend Bianca. She has been taken, and Aeta must fight through a plague-ridden medieval Italy to save her. The game boasts ‘historical European Martial Arts’ as core to its combat, as well as a cinematic medieval Italy to explore. Not only that, but it has Jennifer English (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) playing Bianca alongside seasoned theatre actor Alby Baldwin. Stay tuned for our review coming soon.

1348 Ex Voto is available now for PC and PS5. An Xbox Series version was in development but was cancelled.

1348 Ex Voto: Unlock the Saint Trophy / Achievement Guide

DO NOT READ ON IF YOU WANT TO AVOID STORY SPOILERS FOR 1348 EX VOTO.

The Saint trophy / achievement requires you to “Defeat the final boss without receiving health damage”. This takes places at the end of Chapter 9 – Castle. After battling through a lot (A LOT) of enemies, you’ll arrive at a Cathedral up a slope. In here you’ll fight the final boss, who turns out to be the focus of our quest, Bianca (shocked faces all around).

To unlock the trophy, you must not lose any of your hearts in the battle with Bianca. There are three phases and you’re goal is to whittle down her guard bar three times. Each successful depletion of the bar will result in a cutscene in between phases, unfortunately these don’t activate a checkpoint so you’ll need to not take a hit in one go for all phases.

Of course, if you take a hit, head to the menu, go to ‘Load’ and select ‘Restart Checkpoint’. Just be careful, the ‘Restart Chapter button is very close, and you don’t want to accidentally reload the whole chapter.

Duel-ly Noted

Let’s put it out there, Bianca is a menace in this fight. As with the other combat in the game, you can block normal attacks by having your guard up. If you’ve unlocked the Perfect Parry skill (highly recommended) you can deflect the attack and reduce some of her guard bar. You can also use Perfect Parry to deflect the strong attacks (indicated by a white glow as she attacks).

The one attack to watch out for more than any others, it’s the one that caught me out the most, is the one where she swings her sword around and then lunges in with the dagger. The swinging sword will count as a hit, and is a normal attack but if you’re trying to parry, the dagger is a strong attack and you need to get your timing down to hit both.

Also be wary that if you take several normal hits it could stagger you so you can’t move or defend as easily, leaving you open to a strong attack that will deal damage.

Slow and Steady

The first phase is fairly simple and most of Bianca’s attacks are standard, though of course she does occasionally throw in some strong attacks. The attack pattern is fairly random, but she’ll use the same attacks, just in different orders. Phase two and three she becomes more deadly and use much more complex attacks, with more strong attacks thrown in.

After many, many, many hours attempting to defeat her with normal combat and perfect my parries, and learning her move set, I decided distance and dodge was my friend. This takes longer but it feels much safer. For speed, I’d recommend normal combat for the first phase, but you can use the dodge and distance method for all methods if you’d prefer.

Essentially, you want to keep your distance from Bianca, whilst using dodge to create gaps if needed. You need to be close enough to her so that she continues to carry out her full combo until she is open to attack. You’re looking for the move when she attacks with both her weapons, the sword and dagger, and she lunges forward. Her arms will go out to the side, like she’s flying.

In and Out

Here’s when you’ll want to attack, no more than three swipes I find. She’ll usually begin another combo, so you don’t want to be too close. Dodge back after attack and use your normal movement to keep back (not in guard mode).

Occasionally, Bianca will circle you walking sideways, you’ll want to dash in and do a single swipe to attack. This is to stop her guard bar regenerating too much while you’re waiting for the next set of attacks. If she is walking sideways you’re usually safe to attack, if she walking towards you, or stopped, she is usually about to start attacking again.

Repeat ad nauseam until she’s defeated! The trophy will unlock after the final cutscene and the credits roll.

Check out a video below of my attempt.
