The hype for Crimson Desert has been unlike anything we’ve seen for a game in a long time. In a year rear ended with the biggest of them all, Grand Theft Auto VI, Pearl Abyss’s open world adventure game has been the most anticipated game of the spring.
Crimson Desert finally released yesterday, shortly after its reviews scores were published and it is off to a sales flyer. Pearl Abyss have announced that the game has sold a staggering two million units within a day of release across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In a statement on X (Twitter), the studio said “We are incredibly humbled to share that #CrimsonDesert has sold through 2 million copies worldwide. Thank you so much to our fans, community, and everyone who has joined us in Pywel. We will listen closely to the wide range of feedback shared by the community and work to make improvements quickly, doing our utmost to make the journey ahead even more enjoyable for our players.”
Launching to an early all-time Steam peak of 239,000 players that may well grow over the launch weekend, as will the number of copies sold. PS5 standard and Xbox Series X|S players were sceptical of the performance on console pre-launch as Pearl Abyss hadn’t shared footage of the game running on base hardware. Now that reassuring consumer footage has reached the internet, it will inevitably encourage more console sales. For PC players unsure if the game will run on their setup, be sure to check out the Crimson Desert system requirements.
It is also worth noting the second half of the statement which points to some of the community issues already raised. Players have had issues with the controls, combat and generally launching the game. With such a hot new IP on their hands, you can expect that the studio will be working hard over the coming weeks to tighten the experience.
