When Microsoft announced their intention to acquire Bethesda, one of the biggest questions was – will Starfield come to PlayStation 5?
Bethesda had teased news for the game this week via social media, which followed an array of Starfield fan influencers who had visited Bethesda during the week of GDC. Well, after around two and a half years of Xbox console exclusivity, the game and it’s Shattered Space DLC –which we found okay in our review – will arrive on PlayStation 5 on 7 April 2026.
Starfield flew out of the gate with a huge early player base that grew to over 14m players in under a year. With the arrival to PlayStation 5, that number will continue to rise.
Starfield PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders and Pricing
Starfield pre-orders are now available, with pricing as follows for both the Standard, Premium and Premium Upgrade editions.

Starfield Game Updates + DLC
As Starfield arrives to PlayStation, the game will also be welcoming a whole host of upgrades to the gameplay. Though, not envisaged as a 2.0 update to fundamentally change the game, the new updates will streamline many of the issues players have had. The key updates include
All versions of Starfield will receive the “Free Lanes” update, have access to the new Terran Armada story DLC, as well as the ‘Trackers Alliance’ (creation bundle). You watch all of the announcements in the Deep Dive with Bethesda devs, or read on for the key details:
Free Lanes Update
Releasing on 7 April, and free for all players, the Free Lanes update adds expanded space travel options that allow you to fly freely between planets within a star system. The update will add in plenty of new points of interests to discover.
There will also be new space encounters and an increased chance of them happening.
Bethesda are also adding a new resource, X-Tech, for managing your gear and ship customisation. They’re also adding a new legendary rank for weapons, helmets, packs and suits, Tier 4.
Some weapons and gear even become “Exotic” when you reach max upgrades. Some of the new Tier 4 legendary effects include:
- Saboteur: Damaging robots has a chance to instantly kill them. Robots explode on death. (This will definitely come in handy for Terran Armada.)
- Reckless: Ranged only. Magazine size is reduced to 1; damage is increased by 500%; health is reduced by 50%. (We’re looking at you, snipers.)
- Enigmatic: Suit only. Holograms of yourself appear while in combat, confusing enemies.
Free Lanes also adds the ability to rank up your unlocked Starborn abilities using Quantum Essence without starting New Game+ and finding additional temples. Starting New Game+ however, doesn’t make you start from scratch. With the new Quantum Entanglement Device, you can bring your favourite items with you into New Game+.
There’s also brand new stations, ship modules, collectibles Elite crew, side quests and vehicles too!
Terran Armada DLC
The Terran Armada DLC releases on 7 April, priced at $9.99 USD. PS5 players can get the DLC included if they purchase the Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade.
A new threat has entered the Settled Systems. Believing themselves to be the “true” children of Earth, the Terran Armada is made up of members of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective who vanished during the Colony War. The Terrans are an advanced military force, largely comprised of robotic soldiers.
The new questline in Terran Armada is woven into the fabric of the Settled Systems. When the Terrans first arrive their motivations are unclear, but the fate of the war against the Terran Armada will have consequences that ripple throughout the galaxy.
Incursions
The Terran Armada DLC also adds a new Incursion system. These can occur almost anywhere in the Settled Systems and are part of the DLC storyline as well as repeatable content to get new gear.
Incursions range from small skirmishes to large-scale infiltrations of Terran vessels where the objectives can vary. Some are story-required while others are optional and reward exploration, and you can tune how often non-story Incursions appear through the Gameplay Options.
The DLC also adds new gear, new ships and ship parts, a new Elite Crew, and Outpost decorations.
Tracker Alliance Bounty Series Update
The Trackers Alliance bounty series is now complete with five new high-value, high-stakes targets for you to track down!
These five new self-contained stories round out the arc with tougher choices, memorable contracts and new pursuits that span the Settled Systems.
The complete Trackers Alliance series is now available as a bundle in the Creations Menu. All players who previously purchased “The Vulture” will have access to all of the new targets at no additional cost. Once you’re cleared for duty, there’s no shortage of credits (or danger) waiting for you.

Starfield DLSS 5
Meanwhile, Starfield was one of the game’s featured in the Nvidia DLSS 5 video yesterday, which has been met with intense backlash online for appearing to offer AI overlays to existing game design. The update, which you can see a demo of below, is arriving in the future:
