Falcom’s president Toshihiro Kondo sat down recently with Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu and churned out a four page interview for the the company’s 45th anniversary. As reported by Gematsu, Kondo would go on to give a few updates on already announced titles in the works, as well as already anticipated, but not yet announced projects. They also gave a glimpse into Falcom’s plans surrounding their 50th anniversary in 2031, including the currently planned ending to the long running and beloved Trails series of games.
In the interview, Kondo mentioned that theme song for the upcoming Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, “Silver Will, Golden Wings,” is already complete, further showing how far along the development process the anticipated remake is. Have a look at what we had to say about the recent original/remake comparison trailer for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
Kondo went on to mention Kyoto Xanadu, the sequel to the 2015 action RPG Tokyo Xanadu. He stated that Kyoto was chosen as the setting due to it being representative of Japan. Kondo also mentioned that the upcoming game is actually a fun game, noting the mixed reaction to the shift to 2D action in the sequel.
Development has already begun on a new entry in the Ys series of action RPGs and Kondo says that main protagonist, Adol, might just be the oldest he’s ever been throughout the 10 mainline games.
Speaking of long series, the main event of information gleaned from the Famitsu interview was the information surrounding the popular and interconnected story of the Trails series. Although unannounced, fans are expecting the next entry in the series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon II, relatively soon and Kondo has given hope that that day will come soon as he has confirmed that the plot is finished.
He also stated the news that Falcom has tentative plans to end the Trails series. The company plans to announce the ending of the huge JRPG epic during Falcom’s 50th anniversary in 2031 and wrap things up the following year. Kondo also told Famitsu that the overall ending has already been decided and that they have a rough idea of the main character’s profession. Fans are looking forward to the future of the franchise but are skeptical that the company will be able to stick to those plans, though I guess time will tell.
The recently announced Dragon Slayer Project also got a shout out, but little new information was given. We’re still unsure if this will be a remake or a new entry, but President Kondo implored us to wait for any future announcements just as I implore you to stick here with Gamer Social Club for updates on Dragon Slayer and any future Falcom games on the way.
