Crimson Desert Console Specs Revealed By Pearl Abyss

One of the long awaited questions surrounding Pearl Abyss’s massive new title Crimson Desert has been answered today by the developer. With about a week to go before the game releases on March 19th we now have the console performance specs which will ease some worries about the games console release.

Considering how big and intense Crimson Desert looks, there was some concern about if Pearl Abyss could achieve things such as 60fps and 4K. With the announcement today we see that the game will have 3 different modes, Performance, Balanced and Quality that will all hit different benchmarks.

On both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 the game will only aim to hit 60fps in performance mode at 1080p. The PlayStation 5 Pro version will hit the 60fps with an upscaled 4K resolution while the Xbox Series S console will only be able to hit 720p and 40fps, a very noticeable dip.

The balanced mode, which is probably how most will play the game, will have upscaled 4K resolution on both the PS5 and Series X console while hitting 40fps. The Pro version will also hit those specs but with more intense raytracing. The Series S console will have no balanced mode.

For a game of this scale and magnitude, 4K/40fps is likely a pretty good way to go, though many gamers feel the 60fps is a must these days.

Lastly we have the Quality mode which is where the PlayStation 5 Pro really shines for Crimson Desert. While both the Series X and base PlayStation 5 maintain the upscaled 4k and dip down to 30fps, quality mode will bring more intense raytracing capabilities. The Pro however will be able to true 4K with Ultra high raytracing and 30fps.

PS5 Pro A Cut Above

The impressive specs of the PlayStation 5 Pro are due to Pearl Abyss taking advantage of the groundbreaking PSSR 2.0 that Sony has worked hard to implement on their most powerful device.

There’s been a bit of debate of late about the value of raytracing in gaming and whether it brings that much of a difference to focus on it. Pearl Abyss does seem to be focusing on this quite a bit so we will have to see how much that pays off and surely other developers will be watching closely to see how it can do from a technical standpoint.

We won’t have to wait too much longer to get the game into people’s hands. Crimson Desert releases on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X on March 19th.
