Magical Adventure Game Hoa Is Getting A 3D Sequel

Publisher PM Studios and developer Skrollcat Games have announced Hoa 2, a direct sequel to the sidescrolling puzzle-platformer Hoa, which was first released back in August, 2021. Check out the announcement trailer for Hoa 2 below.

Taking place a long time after the events of the first game, Hoa 2 sees players take on the titular fairy again, as she awakens in a world both familiar and changed. Time has passed, and so have Hoa’s friends, so now she must find a new purpose for herself, in a heartfelt tale of change, letting go, and moving on.

Key Features of Hoa 2 include:

  • Be Immersed in Breathtaking Visuals – Hoa 2 takes you into a bigger world, yet still stunning to behold. Experience the signature beautiful hand-painted art-style, now in 3D.
  • Enjoy an Outstanding Audio Experience – Relax and unwind as you move through each amazing area, accompanied by soul-touching music, composed by the award-winning team from Hoa.
  • Ally With Nature to Solve Puzzles – Progressing through the world will require help, and the creatures of the world not only guide you but, over time, teach you wondrous new abilities that will change the way you explore. Work with them to solve light-hearted but engaging puzzles as you progress through the gorgeous areas.
  • Go for Achievements and Rewards – Hoa 2 features many challenging achievements and ultra-cute costumes for you to collect. Explore the world, discover secrets, and challenge yourself with fun & addictive minigames to unlock these rewards.

The first game was both critically acclaimed and adored by fans, with a great deal of praise being heaped on its Studio Ghibli-inspired hand-drawn art and powerful ending. In Hoa 2, that same artstyle remains, but now it is being used to create beautiful, layered 3D environments, rich with detail and that same magical quality the original had.

“Hoa has gone through a lot,” said Son Tung Cao, Founder and Game Designer at Skrollcat Studios, “and the world reflects what goes on inside her: freedom to explore with greater openness and mobility, but also a feeling of loss that comes with its own lesson. Our task is to reflect this in both gameplay and world-building, and continue to tell Hoa’s story.”

Time isn’t just something that has come and gone in Hoa 2; it’s built right into the puzzle design, with shifting lighting and seasonal changes reshaping the landscape, puzzles, and narrative moments. Along with a whole host of new creatures to explore and solve puzzles with, Hoa 2 looks to be a big deal for its developer and publisher.

“Hoa was a milestone for PM Studios, not just in terms of success, but how it connected to players on a deeply emotional level,” said Michael Yum, CEO of PM Studios. “It’s a unique blend of evocative storytelling, breathtaking art, and intuitive gameplay that resonated strongly with players. We’re incredibly proud of the impact Hoa had and are proud to continue that journey with Hoa 2.”

Hoa 2 is scheduled to release in 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
